Where does the time go? Summer has turned to autumn. I am constantly reminded of this by the pile of leaves that is steadily growing outside our back door. Lovely shades of orange and red. Perfect contrast to the grey murky sky.

I missed Michelle Shocked in concert.

But I am going to Bob Dylan next week with my Dad.

I have so many exciting things to share that I don't know where to begin. And there are some super secret projects in the works that I can't divulge. Yet. Soon though I promise.

I thought the best way for me to reemerge in the blogging world is to post some photos of my new model. We took some shots for my store yesterday and it has made me really excited about future projects.

If you are interested, check out my facebook page for Ooh La La Vintage.

Back soon,

The morning sun touched lightly....

1960s Hair

'.....on the eyes of Lucy Jordan
In a white suburban bedroom in a white suburban town
As she lay there 'neath the covers dreaming of a thousand lovers
Till the world turned to orange and the room went spinning round'

y'avait du soleil

20 December 2010

20 December 2010

I really can't believe that it is Christmas this week. Along with the fact that four days after that it is my birthday. And then New Year's Eve. And then 2011! Where does the time go? And why does a year seem so much longer when you're say five? (My friend once told me that this is due to the fact that when you're five a year is one fifth of your entire life and therefore HUGE but when you're twenty five it's only a twenty fifth and so of course it seems shorter and so it continues as we get older and older as time seems to gain momentum and move at incredible speed). Ok, so I'm rambling.

I must say that 2010 has been a full on year for me. And I am feeling very much at a loose end right now. I finished up at my job last week. It's strange having my days free. Though they don't feel free. I feel busier than when I was working!

I did though have some down time last week watching the entire series of My So Called Life. I had never seen it. I knew it was something of a cult classic and that it had Claire Danes and Jared Leto in it. But I had no preconceived ideas. And I really loved it. It took me back to being 15 years old and being obsessed with this guy called James who had that dreamy flopsy 90s haircut, played the guitar and wooed girls with his intense serious blue eyes. He was my Jordan Catalano.

I got my hair colored today - not blonde blonde but lighter and my hairdresser curled it loosely for me. So when I got home I thought I would dance around a little in this 1930s dress I purchased from the lovely Francesca of thirteeneightyfive.

I think it is a dress for hair up but who am I to mess with my hairdresser's handiwork.

Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hello. Thank you for your comments and taking the time to visit me. It really does mean a lot to me.

wild horses couldn't drag me away

marianne

Oh Marianne. This picture was too much for me. My three years of growing my hair abruptly came to an end last night. Reunited with my hairdresser (who has been overseas for 2 and a half years and only just returned) I took her this photo and gave her permission to chop away my straggly locks.

It's a little shorter than this at the moment (and I am slightly in shock at exactly how much hair I lost) but will be absolutely perfect when it grows a couple of inches. Now I must study you tube videos to learn how to get some volume in my hair and keep the ends nicely flicked out in that 60s style I love so much.

I will also be going blonde in the weeks to come ...

And blogging again soon I promise!

the hissing of summer lawns

2 October 2010

I feel like I have been hiding away for weeks. Today the sky is blue, the sun is shining and I have decided to spend the afternoon out on the deck reading Valley of the Dolls and listening to old records. And maybe I'll treat myself to a cocktail. All I need now is a view of the ocean.

I needed an outfit that would reflect the frivolity of my day. These 1950s pin up style polka dot shorts paired with my red bathing suit and 60s mary janes fit the bill. Of course the look wouldn't have been complete without red lips (I wanted red nails too but am so terrible at painting my nails I gave it a miss).

I haven't worn shorts (apart from to the gym) since I was a child. Basically, I have as much trouble finding flattering shorts as I do pants (and I haven't worn pants in years). So, when the lovely owners (mother and daughter team) of the adorable store Swonderful asked me to do a review on a pair of shorts from their Spring collection you can only imagine how excited I was. It is the only store in Wellington (bar vintage and thrift stores) that I ever go to. The only way I can think to describe its cuteness is to say that it is like the handmade section of Etsy in a real life store. Completely sweet and perfect.

I love the high-waist, the simplicity of the design (I am not much for fussy details) and the length - not too short, not too long, to quote that golden haired little rascal, they are just right. And the polka dots - so cute! I am planning on living in these this summer. They will go perfectly with all my little vintage lacy tops and blouses. But I must say, I like them best with my swimsuit as I feel ready for the beach or summer vacation. Not that it's quite that warm yet. A girl can dream.

Now to get some sun on my pale winter skin....
